The Role & The Team 

As part of our multi‑year modernisation program, we are preparing for the Civil–Military Air Traffic System (CMATS) and migrating legacy IP and non‑IP technologies to a modern, resilient, all‑IP network supporting Air Traffic Control, Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), and enterprise services.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP) team within the Chief Technology Enablement Officer (CTEO) Group. Reporting to the Network Services Lead (Brisbane), this role plays a critical part in maintaining and operating existing network infrastructure while contributing to the design, planning and transition to new network technologies.

This is a hands‑on senior technical role working in a 24/7, safety‑critical environment, providing expert advice, resolving complex incidents, and supporting major technology programs.

What you’ll do

- Provide senior technical expertise in the support and lifecycle management of complex network and telecommunications systems

- Support operational networks to meet strict availability, reliability and safety requirements

- Contribute subject matter expertise and technical leadership to projects, from planning through delivery

- Investigate, manage and resolve complex network faults, defects and incidents

- Assist with system design, requirements analysis, implementation and system upgrades

- Prepare and review technical documentation including specifications, test plans, procedures and policies

- Ensure network systems comply with CASA, ICAO, national and international standards, and internal safety and security requirements

- Act as a System Technical Advisor (SysTA) for network systems accepting technical delegation as required

- Mentor and support less experienced engineers and contribute to team capability development

- Work closely with internal stakeholders, project teams and external vendors to deliver outcomes safely, on time and to standard

- Be on call for at least one week per month, where you will answer calls outside of work hours and attend to faults and failures as required

About you

To be successful, you will bring:

- 7+ years’ experience supporting complex network infrastructure in enterprise or mission‑critical environments

- Strong experience in systems engineering, network operations and change management processes

- The ability to work with limited direction and exercise sound technical judgement

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to diverse audiences

- A strong safety mindset and experience working in 24x7, high‑reliability environments

Qualifications & Clearances

- Mandatory: Recognised Diploma in IT or Engineering (or equivalent experience)

- Essential: Australian citizenship with NV1 Security Clearance (or ability to obtain)

- Essential: Cisco CCNP

- Highly desirable: Advanced Cisco certifications in routing and switching (or equivalent industry experience)

- Desirable: Experience with ITIL, ISM, ISO 27000, COBIT or similar frameworks

- Desirable: Registration with the Board of Professional Engineers, Queensland
