The Role & The Team
As a Network Security Engineer in the Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP), you will be part of a team responsible for delivering secure, reliable and high‑quality network solutions that support both operational and enterprise environments. You’ll contribute to a multi‑year modernisation program transitioning Airservices to a new IP‑based network.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Network Security Team Lead and contribute to domain outcomes by ensuring the integrity, safety and effectiveness of network security systems.
- Provide specialist technical expertise to design, support and manage secure network and telecommunications systems, while contributing to project planning and execution.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve system faults, defects and technical issues, and develop recommendations to improve performance, reliability and cost‑effectiveness.
- Assist with requirements analysis, system design, implementation and upgrades, producing key documentation including specifications, test plans and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with CASA, ICAO, national and internal safety and security standards, while adhering to governance, change management and reporting processes.
- Participate in an on‑call roster to provide after‑hours support for critical network issues and operational continuity.
The Person
You’re a proactive, detail‑oriented security professional who thrives in a safety‑critical environment. You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, solve complex engineering problems and maintain a customer‑focused mindset.
The successful applicant will have:
- Experience supporting complex network security infrastructure deployments
- Deep understanding of NGFW, BGP, proxies, WAF, IPS/IDS, VPN and remote access services
- Knowledge of the ISM and PSPF frameworks in secure IT environments
- Ability to detect, analyse and mitigate security vulnerabilities using analytical tools
- Experience with systems engineering and robust change control processes
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Mandatory qualifications and eligibility for NV1 clearance; desirable industry certifications (Cisco, Palo Alto, F5, Check Point, Infoblox, AWS, Azure
Mandatory Qualifications
- Recognised Diploma in a relevant IT or Engineering field
- Australian Citizenship, with the ability to hold or obtain an AGSVA Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance
- Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, F5, and Infoblox advanced certifications
- AWS Advanced Networking / Security certifications
- Microsoft Azure certifications
