As the Safety Systems and Regulatory Lead, you’ll spearhead the delivery of a best-in-class Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS), tailored to ICAO frameworks, Australian legislation, and the unique needs of a diverse aviation workforce — from Air Traffic Controllers and Firefighters to Corporate and Technical teams.

In this influential position you will:

  • Drive the development, integration, and continuous improvement of the Airservices SMS, ensuring it remains practical, credible, and internationally recognised
  • Ensure Airservices achieves SMS standards and practices aligned and recognised as industry and ANSP best practice.
  • Deliver education, training and promotion programs that empower staff to own their safety obligations and strengthen risk management.
  • Foster strategic, productive relationships with regulatory bodies and international ANSP safety experts, influencing safety practices globally.
  • Lead with insight and resilience through complex regulatory negotiations and provide expert safety advice to Senior Executives.
  • Build and inspire a high-performing, psychologically safe team, and champion safety culture and innovation across Airservices.

The Role & The Team

You’ll lead a specialist team dedicated to embedding our safety into the DNA of our culture, while streamlining regulatory interactions with key bodies like CASA and the ATSB.

Your strategic thinking, ability to influence at all levels with your team and various stakeholders and proven track record in safety systems leadership will be essential to championing effective change, delivery, and embedding sustainable outcomes.

 

Qualifications & Competencies:

Formal qualifications or equivalent experience in aviation safety systems, accident/incident investigation, or regulatory safety management.

Demonstrated success in aligning safety frameworks with operational needs in high-complexity aviation environments.

Expertise working directly with or within ICAO or the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in an operational role.

The Person

A seasoned safety management professional with at least 5 years' experience leading aviation safety systems and embedding systemic change.

Expert in aligning ISMS processes within a Safety Information Management System (SIMS),and integrating strategic KPIs.

Adept at navigating regulatory environments, with a strong working knowledge of CASA and ICAO standards, and at least 3 years’ experience working with or within these bodies.

A highly skilled communicator with the influence and socio-political acumen to engage confidently at all organisational levels and with external regulators.

Committed to delivering results through collaborative partnerships, effective stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement.
