The Role & The Team

This specialist role will be key in the successful delivery of the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) Program, and Flight Information Management System (FIMS) project within Uncrewed Services.  The position will be at the forefront of providing air traffic control knowledge and expertise to the Uncrewed Services Change Program and its integration into Air Traffic Management.

The role will support the UTM Program Manager, and the wider Uncrewed Services change program by being the key point of contact for ATM subject matter expertise.  You will also contribute to the strategy, compliance with regulatory standards, navigating through developing certification and verification pathways, and effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders. You will utilise your expertise to shape the strategy and implementation of enhanced drone detections capabilities and responses developed within the Airspace Surveillance workstream.

Working closely with internal and external project teams you will advocate for and support the safe growth of the UAS industry in Australia.  Your knowledge and expertise will be key to the successful delivery of the program.

The Person

This role will provide key advice from an operational perspective and will work with internal and external stakeholders across the organisation as a subject matter expert in this space.  As such you will have excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.  You will be able to work independently, supporting multiple projects and can meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.  In addition you should have;

  • Qualified (civil or military) as an air traffic controller
  •  At least 3 years experience working in the aviation industry with working knowledge of airspace management, aviation regulatory frameworks and certification processes.
  • Proven track record of leading projects through complex certification and/or pathways
  • Proficiency in writing technical documents including reports, concept of operations, and specifications with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams and influence decision making processes.
  • Detailed working knowledge of standards and regulatory framework relevant to ATM
  • Familiarity with UTM operations and/or standards highly desirable.
