The Role & The Team

The Line Leader is responsible for the delivery of safe, efficient and resilient air traffic management (ATM) services within a designated area of responsibility. We are looking for a full-time permanent Line Leader based in Perth. In this role, you will thrive on responsibility through forming positive working relationships with your staff, build a positive working environment, and develop a high performing team.

A day in the life of a Line Leader could see you:

  • Leading a team of highly trained air traffic controllers in a non-operational management role
  • Developing your team of air traffic controllers to ensure they are suitably trained and resourced to meet the demands of their role
  • Working within the broader business to develop and implement strategic change initiatives to meet future service delivery obligations
  • Overseeing the operational performance of team members to ensure the safe provision of air traffic services in your delegated area
  • Working with team members to identify and enable career development opportunities that benefit the individual and the business

Airservices Line Leaders are rewarded with the opportunity to work in a challenging and dynamic environment and hold responsibility for ensuring the safe provision of air traffic services. The role is typically undertaken during business hours, but you will be leading a team of professionals who are rostered 24/7. To meet the challenges of the role, you may periodically be called upon to be flexible in the hours you work.

The Person

Leaning into your strong leadership background, this role will see you manage the delivery of safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible ATM services.

You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects of organisational change(s) and respond agilely to changing demands. You can look forward to the opportunity to identify new and emerging operational risks, develop new risk assessments and liaise with the relevant stakeholders.

No two days will look the same, and these roles also include responsibilities including:

  • Introduce an integrated and structured portfolio of programs, projects and initiatives to effectively deliver new systems, capabilities and technologies while ensuring continuity of service.
  • Deploy resources to meet operational requirements and deliver required services within set timeframes.
  • Maintain financial discipline to enable efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Maximise productivity and efficiency whilst containing costs.
  • Deliver continuous improvement in performance focused on decreasing cost, improving skills, and enhancing the use of people within the service delivery area.
  • Build a performance culture based on demonstrated productivity improvements through the efficient management of people, finances and assets.

The successful applicant will bring:

  • Management or supervision experience in an operational environment.
  • An ability to work in an ever-changing environment and to effectively lead teams through change.
  • Demonstrated communication, liaison, leadership, and management skills which will support, motivate and influence others in the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated business skills, including in the areas of safety/risk management.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills. The ability to provide input and briefings to senior management, the Executive and a range of external parties including airlines customers and industry stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage high workloads, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively and flexibly to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Tertiary qualifications in management, business or a technical field are highly desirable.
