Summary

As a Telecommunications Engineer, you'll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the satellite, microwave and communications systems that support Air Traffic Control and Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services across Australia.

Based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide, you'll provide specialist technical expertise, solve complex telecommunications challenges and contribute to the safe and reliable operation of nationally significant aviation infrastructure.

The Role & The Team

Working within the Network and Telecommunications team, you will be responsible for supporting and managing critical telecommunications services and systems, including satellite and microwave communications networks that underpin Airservices' operational environment.

You will investigate and resolve complex technical issues, provide specialist advice to stakeholders, contribute to telecommunications projects, and support the ongoing improvement of communications services across the organisation.

This role provides exposure to highly specialised telecommunications technologies operating within a 24/7 safety-critical environment, where reliability and performance are essential to Australia's aviation network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Investigating, analysing and diagnosing telecommunications issues and implementing effective solutions.
  • Supporting and maintaining satellite and microwave communications systems.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Preparing technical reports, specifications, procedures and operational documentation.
  • Contributing to projects involving telecommunications infrastructure and services.
  • Managing incidents, problems and changes through platforms such as ServiceNow.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve telecommunications systems, processes and service delivery.
  • Working collaboratively with engineering teams, project teams, vendors and operational stakeholders.
  • Travelling to Airservices sites across Australia as required.

The Person

If you're looking for an opportunity to apply your telecommunications expertise to infrastructure that supports the safe operation of Australia's aviation industry, we'd love to hear from you.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A relevant degree in Engineering from an Australian tertiary institution, or certified equivalent qualification (for overseas qualifications).
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in a relevant engineering field.
  • Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience supporting microwave communications links, satellite systems or related telecommunications technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in radio frequency (RF) electronics and telecommunications engineering.
  • Experience investigating, troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to a range of audiences.
  • Experience preparing technical documentation, procedures, specifications and reports.
  • The ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgement with limited direction.
  • An understanding of working within a 24/7 operational, safety-focused environment.

The following experience would be highly regarded:

  • Satellite communications systems.
  • Microwave communications network design and implementation.
  • ITIL or Service Management practices.
  • Information Security Manual (ISM), ISO27000, COBIT or similar frameworks.
  • Aviation, defence, emergency services or other critical infrastructure environments.
  • ServiceNow or similar workflow and incident management platforms.

Security Clearance
