The Role & The Team

As an Aviation Communications Specialist, you will play a vital role in delivering high‑quality third‑party communications between Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) and pilots, primarily via High Frequency (HF) radio.

Using nationally standardised procedures, you will provide consistent and reliable communication relay services, accurate flight information across multiple channels, and essential support for SARTIME activities that strengthen aviation safety. Collaboration is central to this role, and you will work closely with Air Traffic Controllers, Service Leaders, pilots, technicians, and fellow ACS team members to maintain strong operational coordination. You will also be responsible for upholding organisational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, consistently demonstrating safety‑first behaviours aligned with Airservices’ enterprise safety strategies.

The Person

Skills, Competencies & Qualifications:

Essential:

- Completion of Year 12 or equivalent

- Ability to type a minimum of 60 wpm using touch‑typing

- Capacity to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment

Highly Desirable:

- Experience in aviation or operational communications environments

Capabilities:

- Strong decision‑making and personal accountability

- Ability to apply specialist technical knowledge

- High‑level information analysis and problem‑solving skills

- Professional adherence to instructions, procedures, and compliance standards

- Resilience and adaptability in dynamic or uncertain environments

- Adequate physical coordination, dexterity, and spatial awareness for operational demands
