The Role & The Team

As a Senior Cabling Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and enhancing Airservices’ structured cabling systems and terrestrial networks, which underpin operational voice and data services across Australia’s aviation network. Working with the Networks team and reporting to the Team Lead Networks, you will collaborate with engineers, IT specialists, project teams and external vendors to maintain system integrity, drive improvements, and ensure compliance with safety and technical standards. The team fosters a culture of collaboration, technical excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Deliver specialist technical expertise to support and manage cabling, network and telecommunications systems in line with Airservices’ engineering processes.
  • Analyse operational practices to identify improvements that enhance system performance, reduce cost, and better meet user needs.
  • Provide professional engineering advice to enhance system performance, integrity and management processes.
  • Support requirements analysis, system design, planning and implementation for new systems and upgrades across multiple business areas.
  • Investigate and resolve system defects, faults and issues raised by users and operational teams.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical documentation, including reports, specifications, test plans and proposals to guide system enhancements.
  • Ensure network systems meet CASA, ICAO and Airservices safety, technical and security standards, and provide technical support to leaders and advisors as required
  • Willingness to travel to sites across Australia.

The Person

You are a proactive, solutions‑focused engineer who thrives in complex technical environments and enjoys problem‑solving in a safety‑critical setting. You bring strong communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting complex network infrastructure and structured cabling systems.
  • Strong background in systems engineering, fault investigation and change control.
  • Experience with terrestrial network engineering (copper & fibre).
  • Ability to operate effectively in a 24/7 safety‑critical operational environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation.
  • Knowledge across related domains such as microwave, satellite or radio networks (desirable).

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Engineering qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Diploma in a relevant IT field (MoS requirement).
  • Professional Engineering Registration (e.g., RPEQ) or ability to obtain.
  • Must be an Australian citizen and able to obtain NV1 Security Clearance.
  • ACMA Data Cabling Licence (desirable).

Security Clearance
