The Role & The Team
As an Engineering Specialist (Communications), you will play a key role in delivering, maintaining, and enhancing critical airways systems within the Aerodrome Platform portfolio. This includes voice switching platforms, telecom systems, dispatch consoles, camera systems, and other technologies that support communication, control, and monitoring services for Air Traffic Control and Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting teams—ensuring these systems continue to meet technical performance standards and deliver essential services to industry.
What you’ll do
- Conduct system design, implementation, performance monitoring, reporting, and support activities in compliance with Airservices’ safety and system management policies and procedures.
- Apply systems engineering and provide technical oversight throughout the engineering lifecycle including requirements definition, design, integration, verification, validation, and support for new and upgraded systems, while maintaining skills and monitoring technology developments in the aviation domain
- Design technical specifications to meet customer needs, lead investigations and analysis of complex system issues with solutions and develop and execute test plans for new and updated systems.
- Collect and analyse system performance data to identify improvement areas and prepare related documentation for system upgrades, including requirements, proposals, and engineering plans.
- Provide specialist technical expertise to projects, engage in cross-training to develop skills, and stay informed on industry trends, standards, and regulations.

About you
- A degree in an appropriate Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Technology degree from an Australian tertiary institution or certified equivalent qualification (for overseas qualifications).
- Demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering throughout design, verification, and management, along with expertise in designing, testing, and implementing reliable telecommunications systems, including quality assurance and configuration management.
- High-level knowledge of analogue voice audio components and circuitry, and analogue DC control and monitoring signalling components and circuitry.
- Experience managing stakeholders and vendors, taking ownership of tasks while working well in a team, and strong skills in preparing and reviewing technical documents aligned with strategies.
- Must have or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in a relevant area of engineering in accordance with relevant legislation e.g., Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government National Security Clearance at NV1 level.
