Summary

In this influential position you will:

  • Lead and shape WHS and human performance strategies in an ever changing, high-stakes, complex operating environment. 
  • Develop integrated systems and strategies to tackle workplace health and safety, psychosocial risks, fatigue, and performance stressors.
  • Elevate the workplace health and safety and human performance capabilities of individuals and teams.
  • Embed evidence-based tools and training to enhance workplace health and safety, human performance enablement, and wellbeing outcomes.

The Role & The Team

You’ll lead a specialist, multidisciplinary team providing strategic and high-impact direction, and influence, to the wellbeing and sustained performance of our diverse workforce, from operational teams like Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) to Technical and Corporate groups.

Your charter is to design and deliver integrated WHS and human performance frameworks, systems and processes that are risk-based, evidence-driven and aligned with both legislative obligations and global best practices. Your work will shape our proactive approach to managing psychosocial hazards, fatigue, stress, and injury support, while enabling a culture of safety and individual and team optimisation.

Your strategic thinking, ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, and proven track record in WHS and Human Performance leadership will be essential to championing effective change, delivery, and embedding sustainable outcomes.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:

  • Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety and/or an applied human performance optimisation field (e.g. performance psychology, human factors, occupational health).
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary WHS or human performance teams, with demonstrated success in driving cultural and organisational change.
  • Proven experience implementing human performance monitoring tools, such as wearables, surveys or dashboards that inform risk-based decision-making and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success delivering frameworks, policies, and programs aligned with the Psychosocial Hazard Code of Practice and other legislative WHS obligations.
  • Deep knowledge of Commonwealth and/or State/Territory WHS and aviation regulatory frameworks, including the Work, Health and Safety Act and Civil Aviation Act.
  • Exceptional communication skills — capable of translating complex science into clear, actionable strategy and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and systems-thinking capabilities, with a commitment to continuous improvement.

You are comfortable influencing executive decision-makers and equally adept at working closely with frontline personnel and operational teams.

Your expertise is underpinned by deep technical knowledge and a genuine passion for human wellbeing, performance, and sustainable safety culture.
