The Role & The Team
The Environmental Change (Project) Specialist will manage the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for on-ground projects. You will provide advice and support for the implementation of on-ground project and operational change activities to ensure the changes are made in accordance with environmental obligations and EMS requirements.
The Environment Change Specialist will provide insights into the organisations environmental and sustainability change performance with a view to identify opportunities as they relate to projects. You will be the technical specialist in assisting on-ground change activities across the organisation to support the continuous improvement of our environmental and sustainability performance.
You will form an integral part of the Environmental Operations team and be required to collaborate with other team members to deliver on our overall strategic objectives and ensure continuous improvement. We are a high-performing and accountable team, which contribute towards delivering Airservices' record of Safety, Environmental, WHS, Risk and Compliance excellence.
You will be required to:
- Provide technical direction, advice, support, and assistance on environmental matters to Program/Project Directors/Managers and their teams to enable effective management and mitigation of environmental risks during Capital and Operating Expenditure program projects effecting on-ground facilities, operations, and practices.
- Developing, producing, and maintaining the required Environment Management System (EMS) documentation (e.g. risk screening and assessments, Environment Management Plans) for projects to a high standard.
- Ensuring timely environmental legislative and other obligations are identified and advice provided to the project teams to ensure compliance obligations are satisfied.
- Facilitating activities for environmental hazard identification and risk management through workshops and site inspections.
- Ensuring appropriate risk information is maintained for each project.
- Developing scopes of work for the engagement of specialist consultants and contractors, and reviewing their work to ensure conformance with project requirements
- Ensure sustainability requirements are captured within programs and projects with a view to reduce natural resource consumption and reduce our environmental footprint.
- Undertaking environmental assurance activities and advising on the suitability of project assurance activities.
- Conducting reviews of Environment Management Plan implementation and performance.

The Person
The successful applicant will have:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science or Management (or equivalent), or, plus demonstrated experience in this technical discipline.
- Demonstrated record of conducting environmental impact assessments.
- Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of environmental legislation and the management of environmental consents (permits, approvals, licenses, leases, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in environmental risk management.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation of Environmental Management Plans.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting environmental assurance activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with external and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Understanding of key contemporary environmental issues (related to aviation) in a geographically asset diverse organisation and high community expectations.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to prioritise and deliver work on schedule, whilst working on multiple tasks with competing priorities.
- Networking, representation, negotiation, and liaison skills to deliver on environmental objectives.
