The Role and The Team

In this role you will assist and enable leaders and workers across Airservices, including our Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Air Traffic Control and Maintenance, to manage health and safety risks and compliance obligations in a safety-critical environment. You will also have a direct influence in leading and fostering Work Health and Safety initiatives within these business functions.

You will actively manage the day-to-day tactical work health and safety requirements within your area of responsibility, as well as engaging with a wide range of internal and external customers and stakeholders.

The Person

The successful applicant for this role will be a motivated self-starter who is capable of influencing and guiding leaders and workers in managing risks to health and safety. You will have good written and verbal communication skills, and be able to establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You will bring your specialist knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) risk management and compliance combined with well-developed negotiation and interpersonal skills.

In addition you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the practical application of WHS legislation, codes of practice and Australian/industry standards and guidance in the Commonwealth jurisdiction (or equivalent harmonised jurisdiction)
  • Accredited qualifications in WHS, Safety or Ergonomics to Diploma level or above (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in applying WHS risk management processes in a high-risk safety-critical environment
  • A track record of leading or influencing WHS performance improvements through the development and implementation of WHS strategies and programs
  • Experience in a fire-fighting or emergency services environment (desirable)
  • Certification or relevant experience in Safety Investigations (desirable)
  • Certification or relevant experience in Safety Audits (desirable)
  • Experience in or understanding of, Learning Teams and/or Human and Organisational Performance (desirable)
