Airservices Australia is a government-owned organisation responsible for the safe and efficient management of 11% of the world's airspace and provision of aviation rescue fire fighting services at Australia's busiest airports.

Our people are our greatest asset with a dynamic and diverse team operating from locations across the country, from bustling cities to regional and remote locations. Together, we help secure the future of Australia's skies and keep them amongst the safest in the world.

We connect people with their world safely, linking family and friends, generating economic activity, creating jobs, and facilitating trade and tourism.

Airservices is committed to fostering a culture that is diverse, inclusive and respectful. We encourage motivated individuals who love what they do, value a service-first mindset and embrace a challenge to explore a career with Airservices. In return, you will be a valued team member, be offered flexibility and experience a meaningful career in an exciting, ever-evolving aviation industry.

The Role and the Team

The Integrated Air Traffic Management Technology Suite (I-ATS) Program is one of the most significant technology initiatives currently underway within Airservices. The program will replace critical air traffic management technology across Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth, helping support the future of aviation in Australia.

As the Technical Training Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring our workforce is prepared for the successful implementation and ongoing support of this next-generation technology. This opportunity is offered on a two-year fixed-term basis.

Working closely with technical experts, operational teams and program stakeholders, you will support the design, development and delivery of competency-based technical training solutions. You will conduct training needs analyses, develop learning and assessment materials, coordinate training delivery activities and ensure training outcomes meet required governance, compliance and quality standards.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience supporting technical systems through training, support, maintenance or sustainment activities. While aviation experience will be valuable, we also welcome applicants from other complex technical or highly regulated environments, including defence, rail, telecommunications and technical education, where your skills may be highly transferable.

Experience with TCP/IP and Linux/Unix environments will be highly regarded. However, you don’t need to know everything from day one. Fundamental TCP/IP and Linux/Unix training can be provided, along with mentoring and opportunities to shadow experienced members of the team.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a national technology transformation program while helping build the capability required to support the future of air traffic management in Australia.

You will join a highly skilled and collaborative team focused on delivering safe, effective and compliant technical training outcomes within a complex operational environment.

Availability

Due to upcoming program and training commitments, candidates must be available to attend in-person training in Melbourne from 20 to 23 October 2026.

Candidates who are available to commence at short notice will therefore be highly regarded.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will ideally bring:

  • Experience in the training, support, maintenance or sustainment of technical systems.
  • Experience working within a structured or highly regulated operating environment, with an understanding of compliance, governance and quality requirements.
  • Experience developing or delivering competency-based technical training and assessment solutions.
  • Experience undertaking Training Needs Analyses and developing structured learning programs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced project environment and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience or knowledge of TCP/IP and Linux/Unix environments will be highly regarded.
  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or Assessment) is highly desirable and will be a significant advantage given the program delivery timeframe.
  • A relevant Diploma qualification or higher, and/or demonstrated experience within technology, engineering, electrotechnology, computer systems or another relevant technical discipline.

Experience within aviation, defence, rail, telecommunications or technical education would be highly regarded.

Travel and Location Requirements

This role requires regular interstate travel, predominantly to Melbourne and Brisbane, to deliver face-to-face training onsite.

Travel requirements may range from individual day trips through to periods of two to three weeks per class during peak training delivery periods.

Applicants based outside Victoria should therefore consider their ability to undertake regular interstate travel as part of the role.

Security Clearance

Due to the security requirements associated with this position, applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Baseline Security Clearance.

Successful applicants will also be required to complete an Airservices Background Check and obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
