Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Specialist to provide technical leadership and systems engineering expertise throughout the delivery and operational lifecycle of these mission-critical systems.

The Role & The Team

The Tower Technology Services team within CTEO is responsible for the ongoing management, maintenance, and sustainment of critical technology systems that support Australia's National Airways System (NAS). Our systems are deployed across airports and aerodromes nationwide and play a vital role in the delivery of air traffic services.

As part of the Tower Technology Replacement Program, we are delivering the next generation of Air Traffic Management Systems that provide Air Traffic Controllers with real-time operational information to support safe and effective aircraft movements. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help modernise the technology that underpins Australia's aviation network.

The Person

In the immediate term, you will play a key role in the successful delivery, integration, acceptance, and operational readiness of new Air Traffic Management capabilities. Following deployment, you will become a trusted technical authority responsible for the sustainment, support, and continuous improvement of operational systems that directly support air traffic control services.

This role offers a unique combination of project delivery, systems engineering, operational support, and stakeholder engagement, providing the opportunity to influence technology outcomes that have a direct impact on aviation safety and operational performance across Australia.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and provide oversight across the engineering lifecycle, from design and integration through to testing, deployment, acceptance, and operational support.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for assigned systems and capabilities.
• Drive engineering governance activities, including technical reviews, assurance activities, and acceptance processes.
• Support site deployments and commissioning activities across operational environments.
• Manage technical risks, issues, dependencies, and change activities to ensure successful outcomes.
• Maintain configuration management and system integrity throughout the system lifecycle.
• Provide expert technical advice to engineering, operational, program, and executive stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety, security, regulatory, and quality requirements.
• Lead incident investigations, problem management activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support the long-term sustainment and evolution of critical aerodrome and air traffic management systems.

About You

You are a highly capable systems engineering professional with strong technical leadership skills and a passion for delivering complex, operationally critical technology solutions.

You bring:

• A degree in Engineering or Information Technology from an Australian tertiary institution or certified equivalent qualification (for overseas qualifications) 
• Significant experience in systems engineering, software-intensive systems, or complex operational technology environments.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes, integration, verification, validation, and acceptance activities.
• Experience managing technical risk, change control, and configuration management activities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• The ability to influence outcomes and provide trusted technical advice across multidisciplinary teams.
• A commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Security Clearance

To be eligible, you must be an Australian citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Defence Baseline Security Clearance and Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC).
