The Role & The Team
We are seeking a proactive Senior WHS Change Specialist to provide expert Work Health and Safety support across major change programs, projects, and initiatives within Airservices. This role is critical in ensuring health and safety risks are effectively managed during periods of transformation, including infrastructure projects, changes to air navigation service provisions and complex contractor engagements.
In this pivotal position, you will:
- Partner with project managers, change leads, and operational leaders to embed WHS requirements into project and program management lifecycles
- Provide specialist advice on WHS risk management, compliance obligations, and contractor coordination in a safety-critical environment.
- Influence and lead WHS initiatives that support safe change implementation across diverse functions, including Air Traffic Management, Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting and Technical Maintenance.
- Actively manage WHS aspects of projects and programs, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and assurance activities.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with legislative requirements and Airservices’ safety standards.
The Person
The successful applicant will be a motivated and experienced WHS professional who is capable of influencing and guiding leaders and workers in managing risks to health and safety, in a complex geographically dispersed, and highly regulated environment. You will have good written and verbal communication skills, and be able to establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You will bring your specialist knowledge of Work Health and Safety (WHS) risk management combined with well-developed project management, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated experience in the practical application of WHS legislation, codes of practice and Australian/industry standards and guidance in the Commonwealth jurisdiction (or equivalent harmonised jurisdiction)
- Accredited qualifications in Safety to Diploma level or above (or equivalent industry experience)
- Accredited certification in project management (or equivalent industry experience)
- Demonstrated experience in applying WHS risk management processes in projects and change, in a high-risk safety-critical environments
- Proven experience demonstrating negotiation and influencing skills to embed WHS within projects or change program.
- Exceptional collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders across projects, operations, unions and external contractors
- Certification or relevant experience in Safety Investigations and/or audit (desirable)
- Experience in or understanding of Human and Organisational Performance and Safety Differently practices (desirable)
