The Role & The Team

This exciting opportunity is part of a team transforming how Airservices quantifies and reports on safety performance and risk. You will contribute to the understanding of risk; using data to develop new insights and identifying solutions to inform decision making. You will analyse safety and risk related data from multiple datasets, including occurrence reporting, aircraft trajectories, and much more, to create a holistic risk picture.

The team also runs the Australian Airspace Monitoring Agency, which analyses airspace risk, coordinating with other international monitoring agencies. A core part of the role will be maintaining the activities of this agency.

You will assist the team coordinating with internal, national, and international stakeholders; seeking out and verifying data; maintaining databases; visualising data; and drafting reports and documentation.  You will have the opportunity to gain experience in programming (in Python), creating dashboards (in Power BI), and learning automation methods.

The role will also require you to learn and appreciate the systems underneath the data and analysis. There is scope for this role to adapt to your strengths or to those areas you wish to grow in.

The Person

This role would suit a recent university graduate in a quantitative field; or someone with experience in managing data, dealing with stakeholders, and drafting reports and documentation.

You will need to be comfortable responding to and working with stakeholders (usually via email) and enjoy ensuring data is accurate and maintained.

You will need to be able to work independently, under some supervision, and as part of a diverse team. You will also need well developed written and verbal communication skills.

The successful applicant will have either:

  1. tertiary qualifications in mathematics, computing, science, engineering, statistics or a related quantitative discipline,

or

  1. experience in managing data, liaising with stakeholders, and writing reports and documentation.
