The Role & The Team

 As an Airspace Design Specialist within the Airspace Program, you will be responsible for the leadership, management and design of airspace and air route design solutions which meet the needs of proponents and stakeholders. An Airspace Design Specialist is required to design and deliver solutions for major airport infrastructure projects around Australia, and implement safe, efficient, and environmentally considerate flight path design solutions to Australian aviation.

The role will consist of (but is not limited to) the following duties:

  • Identify and define initiatives to drive benefits in the Australian airspace landscape.
  • Effectively plan, manage, and deliver airspace design project activities to achieve the required outcome within project time, cost, scope, and quality expectations.
  • Advise stakeholders on optimal airspace and flight path design solutions with consideration to ICAO manuals and guidelines
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of project information as required to deliver airspace design changes and support the Airspace Program in all broader activities.
  • Lead a collaborative delivery approach of all airspace design changes with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring appropriate communication and organisational change management is in place when required.
  • Liaise with and support proponents on matters concerning the development, revision and accuracy or withdrawal of operational procedures, inter-related documentation & and matters affecting airspace and air routes.
  • Develop and maintain a highly effective working relationship within the Airspace Program and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure open and transparent communication and resolution of project, program and change related issues
  • Guide, coach and positively influence all transactional activities.

The Person

The successful applicant will have:

  • Demonstrated ATC expertise in the Terminal or Enroute environment, or ICAO qualifications and experience in Instrument Flight Procedure Design.
  • Operation of technical design software and Office applications for development and sharing of design outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and present innovative solutions and influence outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships to facilitate partnerships and cooperation.
  • Demonstrate ability to deliver on impromptu tasks and fulfil desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to critically analyse diverse and dynamic information, drawing from experience to ensure benefit realisation within Airservices and to its customers.
  • Strong written skills with a proven track record of effectively and concisely communicating complex technical and operational concepts to all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong numerical skills able to be applied to aircraft performance and geographical design.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver work on time in an environment where workload peaks and troughs are commonplace.
