The Role
This role contributes to the understanding of Airservices air traffic network performance; accessing data, creating metrics and models, and using them to develop new insights and identify solutions to help inform decision making. The role is about intelligently exploring data to answer critical questions.
The role will involve analysis, programming, mathematics, modelling, automation, visualisation and statistics. The role will require you to learn and appreciate the systems underneath the data and analysis, including fusing data sources. The ability to carry out data quality checking and remediation is essential to the role.
You will also explore ways to automate analysis to improve organisational efficiency. There is scope within the team for this role to adapt to your strengths or to those areas you wish to grow in.
This role would suit a qualified graduate with 3+ years of relevant experience; a recent post-graduate (PhD or Masters); or someone with related experience.
The preferred locations for the role are Canberra or Melbourne.

The Person
This role will suit a person with enthusiasm and interest in solving real-world problems using sophisticated analysis and statistical methods to provide actionable insights. You should be good communicator who enjoys innovating, researching, learning new skills and adapting to a variety of challenges.
You will need to be able to work independently, under supervision, and as part of a diverse team. Importantly you will need to be comfortable in computer programming and working with complex data.
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, computational science or a related discipline.
- A minimum of three years professional experience or post-graduate qualification in one or more of the following fields: data science, machine learning, numerical analysis; statistics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
- Extensive programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, Matlab, C, R, advanced SQL.
- Ability to write concise technical reports, and write to a non-technical executive-level.
- Experience in data wrangling, preparation and gathering data from multiple sources; including dealing with incomplete data and difficult to match records; and/or
- Experience in the analysis of complex data using modern data science methods (statistical analysis, numerical analysis, machine learning, optimisation).
- Experience in data visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI).
