Airservices Australia has multiple vacancies for Engineering Specialists to join our exciting Airspace Platform portfolio.  Recent University Engineering Graduates with entry level experience in IT systems (software development, testing, integration) and/or Systems Engineering are encouraged to apply.

The Role & The Team:

As an Engineering Specialist working on the Airspace Services portfolio of systems, you will be responsible for the technical performance, sustainment, and enhancements of one or more operational software-based airways systems, ensuring the systems meets its agreed technical performance requirements and continues to provide services to industry.

The immediate focus of the role is to provide engineering expertise for the delivery of projects and support of systems. This includes:

  • Perform system design, maintenance, and support tasks throughout the system life cycle in accordance with Airservices safety and system management policies, frameworks, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Apply Systems Engineering and specialist expertise in the areas of planning, design, acquisition and implementation of new systems and upgrades to existing systems.
  • Supporting both legacy systems through to decommissioning, and support of new systems being introduced.

The Airspace Platform group in CTEO (Chief Technology Enablement Officer) is responsible for the on-going management, implementation and sustainment of Technology systems that form part of the National Airways System (NAS). Within our remit are systems used across Australia at all airports, aerodromes, and international partners in the aviation industry.

The Person:

This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced Engineering Specialists and/or recent graduates to join an amazing team environment. You will be team focussed, have exceptional written communication skills and act with honestly, integrity and ethically with care and diligence.

The successful applicants will have:

Essential:

  • A degree in Engineering or Information Technology from an Australian tertiary institution, or certified equivalent qualification (for overseas qualifications).
  • Experience in the design, development, testing and implementation of robust and reliable software systems - this includes the over-arching aspects of quality assurance and configuration management.
  • An understanding of and demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering practices throughout the SDLC and system management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and work as a member of a dynamic team, including ability to work under limited direction to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong documentation skills with experience in preparing and reviewing solution architecture documents and system design documents, including alignment to strategies and existing initiatives.

Highly Desirable:

  • Satisfy the eligibility requirements for registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, or eligibility to obtain RPEQ.
  • Experience in designing, maintaining, and supporting technology systems, in particular:
    1. N-tier architectures and distributed systems
    2. Real-time systems
    3. Message handling
    4. Internet technologies

Desirable:

  • Awareness of Information Security Manual (ISM) and demonstrated experience in adhering to ISM principles and applying ISM controls.
  • Awareness of DO-278A guidelines, software assurance levels and relevant processes and artefacts.
