The Role & The Team

As an Airspace Technology Work Area Lead working on the Airspace Technology supported systems, you will effectively lead the activities of a specialist technical team and be responsible for the technical performance, sustainment and enhancements of one or more operational software-based airways systems, ensuring the systems meet the agreed technical performance requirements and continues to provide services to industry.

The immediate focus of the role is to take the lead on the technical leadership and engineering expertise for the delivery of projects and support of systems, most notably supporting existing systems including Eurocat, ARDDDS and other smaller systems, however you may also be required to support the future Air Traffic Control system CMATS.

In this role you will apply your systems engineering expertise in the areas of planning, design, acquisition and implementation of new systems and upgrades to existing systems, whilst managing the technology change process to ensure effective configuration management and change control is put in place. You will form part of a dynamic, high performing team who are committed to achieving positive outcomes, with an emphasis on an accountable performance culture.

The Person

The successful applicant will have:

  • A degree in Engineering or Information Technology from an Australian tertiary institution or certified equivalent qualification (for overseas qualifications)
  • A sound understanding of and demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering practices throughout the SDLC and system management processes
  • Extensive experience in the design, development, testing and implementation of robust and reliable software systems
  • Strong documentation skills with experience in preparing and reviewing solution architecture documents and system design documents
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and work as a senior member of a dynamic team
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and vendor management

Highly Desirable:

  • Satisfy the eligibility requirements for registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, or eligibility to obtain RPEQ
  • Experience in designing, maintaining, and supporting air traffic management systems and associated components, in particular:
    • N-tier architectures and distributed systems
    • Real-time systems
    • Message handling and
    • Internet technologies
