Each year we manage over four million aircraft movements carrying more than 156 million passengers, and provide air navigation services across 11 per cent of the world’s airspace.

The Role

The Movement Monitor provides an administrative function that maintains an accurate track of aircraft movements and alerts air traffic controllers when a particular trigger point is reached. 

You will be required to listen to Air Traffic Controller and pilot transmissions, observe surveillance equipment, and using visual and audio cues of aircraft on and in the vicinity of the aerodrome, particularly the runways to maintain a series of running totals of aircraft movements.

Provide administrative support to the Line Leaders and the staff of Sydney tower.

This is a 12 months fixed term opportunity.

The Person

To be considered for this position you will:

  • Be a strong communicator who will liaise with the Air Traffic Control Tower Shift Manager and other operational staff as require to advise when the airport Movement Cap may be exceeded.
  • Have demonstrated administration skills, including data collection from various forms of information such as the visual observation of aircraft movements at the airport, and the monitoring of air traffic control frequencies.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will have:

  • An excellent understanding and comprehension of the phonetic alphabet
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly use basic mathematics in order to provide dynamic recording of the movement numbers at Sydney Airport, and provide this information on demand to the ATC Tower Shift Manager
  • Possess the ability to ensure accurate and timely data entry and creation of custom forms in Microsoft Excel, Word, or other programs as required
  • Be able to produce post operational summary reports on a daily, monthly and quarterly basis for the Long Term Operating Plan, Curfew and movement cap requirements
  • Demonstrate skills to provide the following administrative support to staff within Sydney tower with managing day-to-day admin including pay queries, input Time and Attendance, travel requirements, internal/external mail and the distribution of communications
  • Possess the essential skills in the use of Microsoft Office, SAP and Quintiq and other corporate information and transaction processing systems
  • Have highly developed inter-personal skills to assist the Tower Shift Manager with staff replacements, ensuring the most cost effective and operational results are achieved
