Each year we manage over four million aircraft movements carrying more than 156 million passengers, and provide air navigation services across 11 per cent of the world’s airspace.

The Role

As a Risk Intelligence Specialist/Data Scientist, you will be part of an analytics centre of excellence to turn data into actionable intelligence to inform decision making and continuous improvement in the management of risks across multiple domains.

You will connect and synthesise various data sets, develop metrics and provide valuable insights on the patterns and influencing factors of safety performance and risks, and build predictive models for the organisation to target risk management effort.

You will apply creativity and analytical acumen to solve complex analytics problems. You will also improve efficiency and effectiveness in safety and risk data management by supporting the implementation of machine learning, automation, business intelligence (BI) tools and continual process improvement.

The Person

The Risk Intelligence Specialist will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Perform data extraction and wrangling using large and complex data sets
  • Undertake complex analysis and visualisation of the trends, patterns, influencing factors and risk pictures of Airservices performance across our frameworks (Safety Management, Environment Management, GRC, Security)
  • Develop metrics, performance dashboards and analysis reports
  • Recommend and apply advanced data analytics techniques and tools to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of analyzing safety and risk data
  • Work effectively with a diverse range of team members and stakeholders.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven success in applying advanced data analytics techniques
  • Proven experience in developing and applying machine learning algorithms to find patterns and build models, and using the results to solve complex problems (e.g. causal analysis,  and predictive modelling)
  • Experience with natural language processing and text mining is desirable
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git is desirable
  • Familiarisation with data exploration, data wrangling and data visualisation techniques and tools
  • Practical experience in programming languages oriented towards statistical analysis (e.g. Python)
  • Strong written and oral communications skills to enable a diverse audience to easily understand the methologies, models and results of data analysis
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of cross-functional teams
  • Ability to deliver quality and timely work outputs within a fast-paced and complex organisational setting
  • Ability to bring innovative methods and make connections from other fields into aviation safety analysis to understand, frame and solve complex problems
  • Experience with BI tools and developing performance dashboards is highly desirable.

    The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in data science, engineering, computer science, mathematics or statistics
  • At least five years’ experience in data science / data mining.
